The Township of Rideau Lakes received grant funding to engage a qualified designer to develop concept plans for an exterior recreational space at the Ronald E. Holman Municipal Complex (REHMC). An outdoor recreation space at the REHMC built on the renovation of the former OPP office into the local library branch and is a core element of the REHMC hub along with the library and community hall. Further, the opportunity was fully unlocked by the movement of the sand storage building from the north end to the “Megadome” in the back of the REHMC property in 2020 which opened up the entire north-end of the lot.

In September 2020, Council awarded a design tender to J.W. Taylor Consulting to develop these concept plans who was to consult with staff, community members, and stakeholders in completing this task. These concept plans were completed in the fall of 2021, and were presented to Council at the September 14, 2021, meeting, who then directed staff to move forward with engineering plans for the exterior layout of the park with phased costing and an enlarged pickleball court to 2 courts total.

The northern portion of the property was graded in 2022 and the initial exterior amenities were installed in 2023 such as the pump track, exterior walking path, and rough-ins for the lighting. Future phases of the project include the Pickleball Court, playground, exterior lighting fixtures, and an exterior lookout/seating area as funding becomes available.
