The Township of Rideau Lakes has overseen building permits for the Township of Athens since 2005 through the acceptance of applications, issuance and their required inspections, and closing projects through the required final inspection.

The Township of Rideau Lakes received official notice from the Township of Athens that Rideau Lakes will no longer be providing these services for new applications beginning Friday, May 2, 2025.  As part of the end of this partnership, Rideau Lakes will be transitioning open building permits for properties within the Township of Athens.

New Applications:

As of May 2, 2025, the Township of Rideau Lakes no longer oversees building applications for the Township of Athens. New applications for projects taking place within the Township of Athens are to be submitted to the Township of Athens.

Active Issued Permits:

The Township of Rideau Lakes will continue to conduct all the inspections for your active issued permit(s) until May 2, 2026.  After this date, all Athens building permits will be delivered to the Township of Athens and they will be responsible for any remaining inspections, reviews, certification (if applicable), and deeming projects as complete.
