Special Community Event

James Raffin (Westport Speaker Series)

Description

Westport Speaker Series

Join Friends of the Westport Library at Westport United Church for an evening of stories and music by one of Canada's greatest explorers, Dr. James Raffan of Seeley's Bay, ON. Be entertained and educated by his backcountry expeditions, accounts of chasing caribou, penguins and polar bears, and travels to the Arctic Circle. Dr. Raffan's talk circles back to canoes, with an update on the exciting developments at the new Canadian Canoe Museum on Little Lake in Peterborough, ON. Two classic Canadian silent watercraft will be on display for the evening.

About James Raffan

Dr. Raffan is an author and editor of more than 20 best-selling books, many of which will be on sale at the event. He is a Fellow International of the Explorers Club, a Fellow and Past Governor of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and, in 2017, was named by Canadian Geographic as one of Canada’s 90 greatest explorers of all time. Most of his nearly 70 years have been spent paddling, snowshoeing, skiing, dog-sledding, cycling and wandering this country from coast to coast. Weather permitting, Dr. Raffan plans to snowshoe north to Westport from his home on Cranberry Lake (Seeley’s Bay) where he lives with his wife, Gail Simmons, and a menagerie of dogs, cats and horses.

Doors open 6:30 pm for a 7:00 pm presentation.

Recording James Raffan is not permitted. More information about James Raffan

In lieu of an admission fee, voluntary donations will be collected at the door for the Canadian Canoe Museum.
