Daffodil Days in the township runs from mid Ap ril to Mid-May – an idea that has blossomed into something people look forw ard to each spring. Every fall for the last two decades, residents of Ridea u Lakes plant daffodil bulbs and come spring, tens of thousands of bright, yellow flowers adorn local roadsides, fences, public spaces, and private ga rdens.
The roots of this springtime feast for the eyes go back to 199 9 when a Portland family planted daffodils to celebrate the new millennium. Each year, they continued to plant different varieties and locals latched onto the idea. So many people followed their example that in 2010 Rideau La kes launched the Daffodil Project with the ultimate goal o f being the must-see location for daffodils in Ontario.
By 2015, Rideau Lakes was procl aimed the Daffodil Capital of Ontario! Rumour has it that more than 40,000 daffodils have now been planted within the township. Once planted, daffodil s multiply and bloom annually making for some lovely viewing opportunities every spring.
