Stevens Cemetery

Inactive

Maintained by the Municipality

Daytown Road, Delta, ON

The land, Lot 20 in the 9th Concession, was purchased by Abel Stevens Jr. in 1835, less ½ an acre that was staked out for a cemetery. The first burial does not appear until 1858 when Elder Abel Stevens Jr. was interred there. Abel Stevens Jr. was the Elder of the Baptist Church in Delta and the church maintained the cemetery after his death. In the late twentieth century, the cemetery was turned over to the Township of Bastard and South Burgess who provided the maintenance on the site even though burials continued. Elder Abel Stevens, who died in 1816 and was buried in the Denaut Cemetery, was removed from that cemetery for reburial at the Stevens Cemetery. A stone with a brass plaque has been installed where he was buried. The cemetery is located off the Delta Road and is marked by a Township cemetery sign.
