Omer Brown House

71 King St, Delta, ON

The Omer Brown house is located on the corner of King St. and John St. and sits back from the main road atop a small hill. It features an offset front door, bay windows, porch, balcony on the left side of the front façade with single centre detailed pillar, mansard style metal roof, decorative masonry above windows and detailed woodworking throughout the exterior and eaves. The rear section, built after the rest of the home, was once a summer kitchen – now a shed. This elegant brick home is a dynamic example of Victorian style, a similar model to the Seaman home found in Chantry, which has clapboard siding.

Omer Brown was the Warden of Leeds and Grenville in 1902 and a prosperous businessman. He was instrumental in the construction of the Jubilee building in the Delta business block after the original structure was destroyed by fire. His wife, Leaffie, was well-known throughout the village, keeping a millinery shop and providing art classes for Delta residents.
